On Monday, a spokeswoman for the Joels informed that the 23-year-old daughter of singer-songwriter Billy Joel and ex-wife Christie Brinkley is staying together with her famous father at an undisclosed location following her release from a New York hospital over the weekend.
According to the police and as reported by the medias, Alexa was rushed to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Manhattan Saturday afternoon after a suspected pill overdose. She was hospitalized after taking an unknown amount of pills, which was rumored as a possible suicide attempt.
Soon after Alexa was taken to the hospital, publicist for both Joel, Claire Mercuri, released a statement saying that, “She is stable. Her doctors are assessing her needs. That’s all we can say at this moment.”
And after being released from the hospital, Alexa’s rep informed that “Alexa is feeling much better. She is with her family and looking forward to getting back on track.” Mercuri has declined to comment on specifically why Alexa Ray was admitted to hospital, but reports said that Alexa was distraught over a fight with her boyfriend, then took too many pills.
Alexa is the only child of the 60-year-old famous crooner and his supermodel ex-wife. Brinkley and Joel married in 1984 before divorcing 10 years later. Alexa, also a musician and a songwriter, debuted her song Invisible this year, and performed on television’s The Wendy Williams Show.
She was among several celebrities scheduled to appear in a tree-lighting ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange this Thursday. And she also has two scheduled performances on Dec. 10 in New York City, according to her MySpace page. No comment has been given on if the appearances will be postponed.
“She is going to be fine,” Newsday quoted Billy Joel as saying on Saturday night.
Although the Piano Man singer was not at his daughter’s bedside at the time, mom Brinkley did, but papa Joel remained in touch over the telephone. And then, when asked about his daughter’s condition late Saturday night, Billy Joel said, “She is going to be fine.”
We hope you will, Alexa. Get well soon!
